HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

NORDOST is a fully documented ‘Windfall Yacht’ so-called as they fell like ripe fruits after the Second World War and were brought back to England as spoils of war. NORDOST was liberated by a Spitfire pilot and sailed back to Harwich in 1946 from the Dutch Canal where she was in use as accommodation for Luftwaffe pilots.

NORDOST was built in Lubeck (Travemunde) in 1928 to the 60 Square Metre Seefahrtkreuzer (sports yacht) German National Rule. Twenty-one 60 sq.m. examples were built of which only three are known to survive. Michael Cudmore’s 2007 book The Windfall Yachts, a legacy of goodwill is a study of the subject and lists NORDOST. In the current ownership, NORDOST has been restored and awaits a new owner to provide the finishing touches and fit an engine.

Mahogany planked hull, copper fastened to steamed oak timbers. Teak laid deck, Mahogany coamings, Oak deck beams and coachroof. Mahogany brightwork. Hull fully re-caulked, some timbers doubled, fully re-painted.

Refurbished accommodation with some original joinery. Four berths, Galley and Marine Heads.

Alloy spars, set of sails.

No engine currently fitted but propeller, shaft and coupling in place.
