Walton on the Naze Essex Essex UK
King Oliver is one of the last of the Dauntless 22's to be built by Dauntless Boatyard on Canvey Island in 1966.
She she has her original Stuart Turner 8hp engine, quiet and reliable. Originally gunter rigged but converted back in the 1970's to a Bermudian rig and caries a bowsprit and a small bumpkin aft. giving her an overall length on 27ft.
She has been well used for family holidays at home and aboard and has made many missions over to France, Belgium and Holland... including taking her inland.
In 2005 her decks were re-sheathed with epoxy and non slip paint. the centre plate and rudder plate were renewed in 2006. It is noted that the keel bolts were drawn in mid 1980's, holes lined with epoxy prior to their re-bedding.
The hull planking of Mahogany on oak, copper fastened has had little attention, not deemed necessary there. Both main frames have been reinforced.
In 2003 her rig and sails received attention. The boom was extended by 2ft, a bumpkin was rigged aft. Slab reefing was added to a new battened main sail . A Light fair weather reacher was also purchased, it can be flown in place of the jib with the stay sail furled on the bow.. These alterations made a notable improvement to her sailing performance. It is also noted that she sails very well with just the stay sail set, which is convenient when sailing single handed.
2017 survey. The must do items have been carried out and there are the receipts for the work carried out.
She was lifted out for a wash off and is now stood ashore.
