" Wild Rose " is a modern classic gaff-rigged cutter designed to be pretty, functional and safe. Being an earlier boat, the layout is commonly known as "Two and a Loo “But the fore-peak, with the sea-heads and lockers, has sufficient space for two small berths or plenty of stowage. The saloon has a galley at the port side aft end, and a gimballed stove with two burners and grill on the starboard side, located under a folding chart table, adjacent to the main hatch. Two full length settee berths, that do not intrude into the cockpit lockers, are either side of a varnished folding table mounted over the lifting keel box. These berths are fitted with extra thick foam mattresses and capacious lockers underneath.
All control lines come back to a generous cockpit allowing all reefing, including the main, to be done from the cockpit. The main sheet track is mounted on the aft cockpit transom thereby keeping the cockpit free of lines and there are cavernous lockers Port and Starboard, with the drained gas bottle locker aft.
The bowsprit increases the overall length by 5ft but is hinged inboard and can be lifted to avoid unnecessary berthing charges and can also be used to as a cantilever for raising and lowering the mast.
The easily lifted keel allows beaching and creek crawling, enabling exploration of harbours and water ways too shallow for rigid keels. Draft is 2ft-4in with the plate up and 5ft-0in when down.
Samson post, tabernacle, mooring cleats, chainplates are of stainless steel and all deck gear is top quality.
The Raymarine 150 series speed/ depth instrument was new in August 2018
The boat sails well, points high for a gaffer and tacks easily. The rig is beautifully balanced and if well-trimmed, will hold her course in a steady wind, so that using a cross thwarts lashing and the tiller mounted clip, one has time to go below for to brew up, etc.
The Yanmar 1GM 10 single cylinder 9HP inboard diesel engine, with shaft drive to a three bladed propeller, is reliable, and has sufficient space around it to allow access and servicing. It is very economical, and gives the boat a comfortable cruising speed of 4.5k, with 6k maximum.
There is a Teleflex single lever control and instrument panel in the cockpit, and two 12volt electrics are served by 2 x86 Ah deep cycle batteries. in the saloon is a battery monitor and automatic bilge pump control. A mobile flexible solar panel is used to maintain battery charge.
A substantial road trailer by Lizard Trailers (that has never been immersed in water) with spare wheel is included. The boat and trailer together have travelled comfortably from Wiltshire to Devon, and back. There is also a tailored tarpaulin cover.
Also included are a six-man inflatable rubber dinghy and a 3.3Hp two-stroke Mariner outboard engine.
