MV Lance is equipped with a helicopter platform suitable for small and medium-sized helicopters. For normal operations the take off-weight is limited to 5 tons (Bell 212 or equivalent), but the helideck is approved for helicopters up to 8 tons (Super Puma or equivalent) subject to aircraft aircraft operators approval.
The helicopter platform measures 13,5m x 11,5m and there is parking space for a spare helicopter on top of the wheelhouse. Lance has helifuel tank.

Rebuilt 1980-81 at Kaarbøes Mek. Verksted, Harstad, Norway, to meet requirements as hydrographic survey vessel and equipped for research, expeditions and oil recovery purposes. Rebuilt again in 1992 at Nymo Verksted A/S, Grimstad, Norway. Rebuilt laboratories and built two offices and one trim tank in the forward cargo hold, to meet requirements for research expeditions in Antarctic and arctic territory.

Accommodations are fully air-conditioned. Mess and dayroom are equipped with radio, TV, video and overhead equipment. Hot and cold water in all cabins. There are sufficient numbers of showers for 40 persons and two laundry rooms for ship laundry and personnel laundry. A gym is arranged adjacent to main cargo hold.
