The Colvic Sailer 29 ft 6" has a reputation as a sturdy, sea-kindly, safe and spacious family cruiser, with long streamline twin keels, a deep cockpit, with space and comfort both inside and deckside. This boat 'FREEDOM' is equally suited for single handed and family cruising or even chartering in the Solent. Her chartering licence has recently been renewed and runs till 05-08-21.
Many Colvic's were home completed but this one was fitted out to a high quality by Govan Shipbuilders Ltd in 1979.
For an encapsulated twin keeler FREEDOM sails really well, holds a good line and beats to wind like a long keeler.
The keel ballast is lead, so no concerns of rusting steel expanding and blowing the keels apart. Also the great advantage of encapsulated keels is no holes through the hull for keel bolts.
FREEDOM has had a recent extensive refit, including replacement of windows, aquadrive thrust bearing, fresh water tank and pipework, LED lighting inside and out, extra battery bank, new fridge, new masthead wind instrument, AIS engine interfaced with the Garmin map, fireproof hoses and insulation inside engine space.
Down below, is open and spacious, with a galley, comfortable saloon and sleeping accommodation, with crew berths lee cloths, including a separate heads and a double berth in the forward cabin. The accommodation is complimented by plenty of stowage, fairly new upholstery, quality joinery, dry and clean bilges, plenty of lighting and curtains.
The 27hp 3 cylinder Yanmar 3HM is reliable and the smoothest and quietest marine diesel I've had yet, and I've had lots :) This is probably due to the Aquadrive that was fitted from new, which I've recently had serviced and the thrust bearing renewed.
There is Eberspacher diesel heating with an outlet in the main saloon and the forecabin.
FREEDOM has tan sails: the main is slabbed reefed and the genoa is furling with a continuous line. The genoa's UV sacrificial strip, spray hood and sail cover are fairly new and the sails are in good shape. In addition there is a spinnaker with snuffer and separate sheets etc.
There is a storm jib which hanks onto a separate removable heavy duty inner forestay.
There are stainless steel mast steps all the way to the top, making surveying and servicing the rig etc much easier.
There is a full out of the water survey available from 2018, plus a professional rig inspection.
I currently use FREEDOM for occasional Chartering though 'Solent Sailing Days.com' and you can see many photos, videos and great testimonials on the website.
She is a fabulous sailing cruiser, but my circumstances have recently changed and sadly she has to go :(
She is moored and in commission at Dell Quay, Chichester Harbour.
